Digital
accessibility

The new web quality standard.

The entry into force of new standards in June 2025 was set to transform the Luxembourg digital landscape. It is now imperative to update your websites. Web accessibility is no longer considered a simple technical option or a luxury; it has become the essential quality standard for any serious professional site.

What is the purpose
of the standard?

Beyond simple technical compliance, the goal of RAWeb is to guarantee digital autonomy for all. Specifically, it involves removing the invisible barriers that prevent a person in a disability situation (whether visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive) from accessing information and online services like any other citizen.

The goal is universality: a website must not discriminate against its users based on their physical abilities or age. By applying this standard, we seek to create a web environment where everyone can navigate, understand, and interact without third-party assistance, thus ensuring equal opportunities in digital access.

RAWeb: What
are we talking about?

Whether you are a growing SME or an established large organization, RAWeb (Web Accessibility Evaluation Reference) is now the barometer of your site's performance. It is not just about following rules, but about offering a fluid, logical user experience (UX) open to 100% of your potential audience.

RAWeb is the Luxembourgish version of the European standard EN 301 549. It is a technical guide that lists the rules to follow so that a website, application, or digital document is usable by people with disabilities (visual, auditory, motor, cognitive).

10 modifications to implement
quickly

1

Increase color
contrasts

This is the #1 mistake. Light gray text on a white background is illegible for many.

Action
Ensure that the contrast ratio between the text and the background is sufficient (minimum ratio of 4.5:1 for body text). Your mobile readers in bright sunlight will also thank you.

2

Add alternative text (Alt Text) to images

Blind people use screen readers that 'read' the site aloud. If an image has no description, they hear 'IMG_1234.jpg'.

Action
Describe what the image shows in the alt tag (e.g., 'The Intrépide Studio team in a meeting').

<img src="image.jpg" alt="Description de l'image">
3

Prioritize your headings
(H1, H2, H3)

Structure is not just aesthetic; it allows for navigation. One should not jump from Heading 1 to Heading 3.

Action
Check that each page has only one H1 (the main subject) and that H2 and H3 nest logically. In terms of SEO, this is the foundation.

H1

H2
Objectives
H3

4

Make links explicit

Links like 'Click here' or 'Learn more' are incomprehensible out of context.

Action
Write links that are self-sufficient. Replace 'Click here' with 'Download our price brochure'.

5

Label your forms

An input field without a label is a dead end for a visually impaired user.

Action
Ensure that each field (Name, Email, Message) is visibly linked to its label in the code.

Email

6

Ensure keyboard navigation

Many users (motor disability or simple preference) navigate without a mouse, using only the 'Tab' key.

Action
Test your site without a mouse. Can you access all menus and buttons? Is the focus indicator (focus) always visible?

7

Caption your videos

Essential for the hearing impaired, but also for the 85% of users who watch videos without sound on social media or at the office.

Action
Systematically add subtitles or a text transcript to your multimedia content.

Hello, welcome to Intrépide.

8

Avoid unexpected pop-ups or new windows

Opening a link in a new tab without warning the user can be disorienting.

Action
If a link must open in a new window, indicate it (visually or textually).

9

Allow zooming up to 200%

Some users need to enlarge the text.

Action
Verify that your site layout does not 'break' and that text does not overlap when zooming in the browser.

Zoom: 200%
Legible text.
10

Provide breadcrumbs

Knowing where you are in the hierarchy is crucial for cognitive orientation.

Action
Display the path (Home > Services > Web Development) at the top of deep pages.

Why is it profitable
for your business?

Accessibility is a virtuous circle that directly impacts your results:

SEO Boost

Google favors well-structured sites. An accessible site is, by nature, better coded and better indexed.

Better UX

A simplified and legible interface reduces bounce rate and improves the experience for all your visitors.

Brand Image

Displaying an accessibility statement proves your social commitment.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

Will making my site accessible boost my SEO?

Yes, absolutely. Search engines (Google) and accessibility tools share the same quality criteria: clear structure, descriptive text content, clean code. An accessible site is mechanically better ranked.

How long does a compliance update take?

For a standard showcase site, it can range from a few days to a few weeks depending on the quality of the initial code. For complex e-commerce sites, it is a progressive project that we prioritize together.

Do I have to sacrifice design for accessibility?

No. That is a myth. An accessible site can be visually very impactful. Contrast or font size constraints are guides that often lead toward a cleaner, more modern, and more effective design.
